5-Day Desert Round Trip Tour from Marrakesh

This leisurely trip along ancient trade routes takes you from Marrakesh through valleys and over mountains to the breathtaking sahara where you will travel by camel caravan and spend a night at a magical desert camp.

DAY 1: Marrakesh – Dades Gorges

We will come meet you at the Marrakech airport or your hotel after breakfast to pick you up and then leave Marrakesh to start our tour to the Dades Gorges. To begin, we’ll wind our way through the Tizi n’Tichka pass in the high Atlas Mountains and have short stops to take some photos. Then we will visit the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou which is recognized by UNESCO. It is also a prize setting for famous cinema directors. Continue our day enjoying the beautiful natural landscapes of the Valley of Roses, which is known for The Festival of Roses. Once we arrive at the peaceful and quiet Dades Gorges we will spend the night in a local hotel. If there’s time before sunset, we’ll also take in a view of the famous geological formation known as the monkey fingers.

DAY 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorge – Rissani – Merzouga

After breakfast, we start the tour via Todra Gorge to Merzouga which is known for the highest sand dunes in Morocco. It is called Erg Chebbi Sahara desert. On our way, we will have the chance to see many oases. If we’re lucky, it may be market day in Rissani where we can stop to see the bustling souk with livestock and culinary delights on display. After Rissani we will continue on our way enjoying the green oasis of palm trees of Ziz –Tafilalet and the hamada (black desert) before arriving at Merzouga Village. In this quaint village, we’ll settle in for the night at a local hotel on the edge of the sand dunes.

DAY 3: Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Desert Camp

On this day we explore around the Merzouga desert by 4×4. We will visit Khamlia village – famous for its music. In the afternoon, we will greet our camels who are waiting to take us on an adventure in the sand dunes. We will spend the night in an equipped camp in the middle of the Sahara! This is a great opportunity to take lovely pictures of the sunset and sunrise. We will serve you a traditional Moroccan home-cooked meal. Enjoy some drumming around the campfire before sleeping under the stars or in a Berber nomad tent.

DAY 4: Erg Chebbi – Merzouga – Ouarzazate

After rising early in the camp to see the sunrise if you like, your camel caravan will take you back to the hotel in Merzouga to eat breakfast and take a shower. There is a little time to explore Merzouga on foot. You can check out the local community gardens with a traditional desert irrigation system or take a dip in an outdoor pool if the sun is hot. Next we start our journey through the palm groves of the Draa valley and continue until we reach Ouarzazate, where we have dinner and spend the night.

DAY 5 : Ouarzazate – Marrakesh

On our final day together, we’ll explore Ouarzazate, the Hollywood of Morocco where film studios are located. As we continue our return journey, you will see the ruins of kasbahs along this ancient trade route. We arrive at the most well-preserved of Morocco’s kasbahs Ait Benhaddou.
